Yoga Instructor
Cathy's first Bikram yoga class was in September 2007 at Cristina Rey & Jason Ewing's Atlanta studio. In that class, she found the heat insane, the postures impossible, and thought her head might actually explode from the teacher's non-stop talking. So, she went back again. And again, and again. And in each and every class she found the same thing -- a complete sense of place -- a quiet, still center that encompassed every facet of her body & her mind.
Three years after that first class, Cathy graduated from Bikram Teacher Training in the Fall 2010 San Diego class. At that training, she was able to practice with, and learn from, the combined experience of Bikram, Rajashree, Emmy & the host of outstanding senior teachers. It truly was a once in a lifetime experience, which allowed her the opportunity to be where she is right now.
No longer a practicing attorney, she teaches at the Bikram Yoga Marietta & Bikram Yoga Decatur studios in Atlanta. Watching each student find their own unique sense of place, as they put their focus, intensity & determination into their practice, has become one of the more rewarding chapters in her life. Having begun practicing Bikram yoga shortly before she turned 50, and completed training just prior to her 53d birthday, she firmly believes Bikram speaks the truth when he says, "Never too bad, never too late, never too sick, never too old, to start from scratch again."
When Cathy isn't teaching Bikram yoga, she loves to travel the world -- dragging her husband & three youngest children along with her. Her personal belief system (with a nod to William Morris) tracks the school of thought that one should have nothing in their lives "that they do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." And she feels that experiencing the world, & practicing Bikram yoga both reflect that belief in every way.
